Injection Molding Solutions for Trimble SiteVision
Overview
PRe Plastics specializes in delivering precision injection molding services for a wide range of industries. In this case, our expertise was instrumental in supporting Trimble’s cutting-edge SiteVision product—an augmented reality system that overlays digital models onto real-world environments for use in construction and fieldwork. SiteVision allows users to visualize complex data in real time, significantly enhancing workflow accuracy and decision-making.
The Challenge
When Trimble approached us for support, they were facing a key challenge: producing injection-molded components for SiteVision that were not only highly durable but also precise enough to ensure the system’s optimal performance in the demanding conditions of construction sites. The parts needed to fit seamlessly within the broader device assembly, providing both reliability and ease of use for the end-user.
SiteVision’s components had to withstand exposure to dust, moisture, and rough handling—common on construction sites—while maintaining the sleek, functional design necessary for the product’s success in the marketplace. Trimble required a manufacturing partner who could provide both speed and quality in producing these specialized parts.
The Solution
PRe Plastics partnered with Trimble, our longtime customer of 37 years, to deliver high-quality injection molding services for the SiteVision project. Working with Trimble’s existing designs and specifications, we produced components that met all durability and aesthetic standards. Our team ensured quality at every step, from material selection to the molding process, to deliver components that matched Trimble’s precise requirements.
The Process
Using advanced CAD software, we refined the injection molding process to produce complex shapes with minimal waste and reduced cycle times. We also conducted extensive testing of the materials and prototypes to ensure that each part would meet the rigorous demands of field environments.
Our process included:
- Prototyping and Testing: We quickly developed prototypes to test for durability and functionality before moving to full-scale production.
- Tooling and Production: Once approved, we moved to the tooling stage, where precision molds were created to ensure each part met specifications.
- Quality Control: Every part was thoroughly inspected for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and overall functionality.
Results
The final components for Trimble SiteVision were produced on time and within budget, meeting all of Trimble’s performance and aesthetic requirements. By utilizing our precision molding techniques, we were able to significantly reduce defects and improve overall production efficiency. The high-quality injection molded parts contributed to SiteVision’s enhanced reliability and durability in demanding field environments.
Our collaboration helped streamline their development timeline and provided them with the confidence that the components would deliver long-lasting performance, critical to the success of their product in the market.
